其实这个不知何意的monta是德国籍英国人Tobias Kuhn 一个人撑起的乐团。这个相貌平平的Kuhn是另一个德国乐队Miles的主唱兼吉他手。Miles组建于1992年，当时Kuhn正在德国的Wuerzbery大学念书，然后遇到了喜好独立音乐的 Mike Silver 跟 Ronny Rock，之后一切就顺理成章了。乐队组建不久并自制发行了一张同名EP。1997年签约德国一家唱片公司并发行首张专辑The Day I Vanished。1999年出产第二张专辑，名字不详。两张专辑后乐队影响力逐渐扩大，由欧洲日本波及到了美国。2001年美国的独立音乐厂牌Feel Records签下了该乐队并于次年夏天发行了一张精选集Structure Vs. Happiness。
撇开Miles乐队不说，Monta应该算是Kuhn的一个solo project。2003年Monta发行第一张EP-Always Altamont，干净优美略带一点sadcore的独立流行风格从此确立。之后Monta总是作为配角给 Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Elbow, Naked Lunch 等乐队做助阵演出。2005年，Monta终于带来了一张一鸣惊人的Where Circles Begin.
