吉特巴舞蹈最初来源于北美洲，1980年代中后期，我国对交谊舞进行了规范，吉特巴纳入规范交谊舞。规范吉特巴是我国著名舞蹈家杨艺，在小拉舞的基础上，对吉特巴做了重大改新和编创，形成了具有中国特色的随心吉特巴舞蹈风格，并传遍祖国大地。
吉特巴在舞厅中相对来说是有点难度的舞蹈，其他的舞厅舞，像北京平四(平四，或快四步)、慢四、慢三、快三等等，即使女生不会跳，在男士的引带下，也能跳许多基本步及简单的花样组合，但是吉特帕如果女生一点都不懂的话，就无法跳起来，所以这种舞蹈对那些总想偷懒不想通过一些刻苦的练习，不用记舞步，就能跳的女生来讲，就有些难度了，所以能调好吉特帕的女生的确不多，所以女生要努力哦。
不停交换的脚尖脚跟击地与身体忽前忽后的迅速摇摆以及要求膝部屈伸的相互协调是吉特巴舞蹈动作的最基本要求，伴随着节奏感十分强烈的歌声，带着欢欣愉悦的情绪瞬间就能点亮任意沉闷场合的氛围。
交谊舞吉特巴基本套路
1 单手拉花，反弹造型;
2 单手拉花 双手错;
3 单手拉花，扇形打开;跳舞要学什么
4 云城节拍，套环双转;
5 双手背拉，南京小拉;
6 横移拧转，天津舞步;从零开始学跳舞
7 水兵登步，扇形打开;
8 水兵登步，点步拧转;跳舞需要学什么
9 拉花变步，左右闪转;
10 双手措，反弹双转;
11 双手套环，左右闪步;
12 世纪舞步，反弹双转;
