1995年9月，Slipknot乐队成立于美国爱荷华州的首府Des Moines地区，经过成立之初的发展之后，以Shawn "Clown" Crahan为首的这支乐队最终形成了多达九人的固定阵容。Slipknot乐队也顺势分别以0到8的九个数字来代表每名成员，从0到8，他们依次是：Sid Wilson，Joey Jordison，Paul Grey，Chris Fehn，James Root，Craig Jones，Shawn "Clown" Crahan，Mick Thompson，Corey Taylor。自从成立之初，Slipknot乐队的九名成员们就开始以面具作为他们最重要的表演工具来使用，无论到哪里，都只见面具，而不见他们的庐山真面目。
