据了解，过去重庆80%的货物出口是走铁路到深圳过境香港，再由法定收货人中国旅行社统一租车送往码头，然后出海。其间各种费用相加大约每个TEU(标准集装箱)6000元人民币，今后通过长江航道，从重庆到上海可以全程签单，每个TEU只需3000元人民币。国内的运输费用就能节省一半。 此外，目前上海航运中心的地位正在显现，长江入海口涌进众多船舶公司，激烈的竞争使从上海出发的远洋航线报价普遍比香港低。从时间上来说，走长江航道一站到底，中间不需要多次转卸、通关，时间甚至能缩短两天，西部12个省市中仅重庆等少数省市临靠长江。有了廉价便利的“黄金水道”，周边省市的货物将会云集重庆，通过海关联网、网上报关，重庆将很快成为内陆重要的出海口。
注:铁路运输虽然物理时间比水运快,但是中间装卸,搬运确要消耗大量时间,而水运除在海港换装海轮外,可以说是一站到底,而且费用更低!

涪陵]镇安造船厂建造的4千吨级驳船正式下水试航 
新华网重庆频道8月29日电（张皓）近日，涪陵区镇安造船厂建造的载重量为4000吨的钢质干散货机驳船——“宇航1001”轮，在一声长鸣信号拉响后,正式下水开始试航。 
 笔者在现场看到，经过一个多小时的试航, “宇航1001”轮机器设备运转正常,即日将通过涪陵检验部门检验合格后交付船东正式投入营运。据了解，“宇航1001”轮是镇安造船厂为重庆航宇船务公司建造的长93米、宽16.2米、深4.8米的载重量为4000吨的钢质干散货机驳船，这也是镇安造船厂建厂以来承接的最大吨位的船舶建造业务。
